Rotary Scholarship programs change lives and are offered in the form of Global Grant Scholarships and Peace fellowships!

Global Grant Scholarships (formerly Ambassadorial Scholarships) fund graduate-level coursework or research for one to four academic years. The mission of the scholarship is to enable Rotary to
advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. Through global grants, Rotarians support future leaders in fields related to our six areas of focus:
    • Peacebuilding and conflict resolution
    • Disease prevention and treatment
    • Water, sanitation and hygiene
    • Maternal and child health
    • Basic education and literacy
    • Community economic development

A key feature of global grants is the partnership between the district or club in the study location (host sponsor) and the district or club in the scholar’s home country (international sponsor).  There is no cost to individual rotary clubs for the scholarship, other than the time for selection and the mentoring of candidates. The funding is 50% from District Designated Funds and 50% from the Foundation World Fund.

We are currently seeking applicants who:
    • Have completed undergraduate studies and demonstrated academic success
    • Plan to pursue a career in an area of focus and have a long-term commitment to measurable, sustainable change in that area
    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to international understanding ad peace
    • demonstrate “service above self” and a propensity to being an ambassador for Rotary
    • Plan to study in one of the above-mentioned areas of focus
Please promote this amazing opportunity with university students in your area through their student unions, student newspapers and radio stations as well as local media.

My year as a global grant scholar was an incredible opportunity to pursue post-graduate studies in a field near and dear to my heart while also enjoying a year spent in another country learning their culture and customs. My favourite part of the scholarship was connecting with other scholars from around the world - their different perspectives, cultures, and passions were great fodder for conversation particularly when discussing dissertation topics. My graduate studies were well-rounded with additional learnings from the other scholars and their areas of interest. This opportunity helped me secure my current position as Executive Director at our local performing and visual arts centre uniting my love of the arts with my passion for non-profit work.” Katina Connelly, Global Grant Scholar, District 7010.

There is information on our District Site under the Projects and Programs tab and Rotary Foundation link found therein.  (See Global Grant Scholarship.)  District 7010 will select one candidate for 2021/2022.

Peace Fellowships: Each year, Rotary funds some of the world’s most dedicated and brightest leaders to study at Rotary Peace Centers.  Through training, study and practice, Rotary Peace Fellows become catalysts for peace and development.  Since the program began in 2002, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,300 fellows who now work in more than 115 countries. Many serve as leaders in governments, NGOs, the military, education, law enforcement, and international organizations like the United Nations and the World Bank.

The Rotary Foundation Peace Fellowship offers up to 50 individuals the opportunity to earn a two-year master’s level degree in international studies, peace studies and conflict resolution at one of the Rotary Centre's University partners located in the United States, Japan, England, Australia or Sweden. Rotary has contracted with five institutions worldwide to provide this valuable training.  It also offers up to 80 individuals the opportunity for certificate studies at premier universities.

We are currently seeking applicants who demonstrate:
    • Proficiency in English and possibly a second language
    • Strong commitment to international understanding and peace as demonstrated through professional and academic achievements and personal or community service
    • Excellent leadership skills
    • For master's degree candidates, a bachelor's degree and at least three years of related full-time work or volunteer experience
    • For certificate candidates, at least five years of related full-time work or volunteer experience
The fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses.
