The Rotary Club is pleased with the annImageouncement that former Rotarian Jack Burrows has been selected as one of this year's 4 inductees for the Kiwanis D.I.A. Walk of Fame.  Jack was nominated by the Rotary Club.

Former Ontario Premier Mike Harris, along with “Kids in the Hall” actor Scott Thompson (who lived in North Bay until he was nine) and Toronto Star photojournalist Jim Rankin have also been chosen to receive a star.

Jack founded the North Bay and Area Community Foundation in 2006 to help a philanthropic spirit in North Bay and area. The North Bay and Area Community Foundation helps local non-profit organizations who have little to no means of acquiring support and funds. Since 2010 (2010 to 2013), the North Bay and Area Community Foundation has presented funding support to twenty-three (23) organizations in the North Bay area.

Jack was a leader in North Bay having served as a City Councillor for six (6) years (1989 to 1994), and the Mayor of North Bay for nine (9) years (1995 to 2003).  The purchase of the CPR rail lands has been referred to by some as his political legacy – a decision that the citizens and visitors alike are now benefiting from and that future generations will see he did as visionary.

Jack was an active and engaging member of the Rotary Club of North Bay for forty-one (41) years having served as President in 1977/1978.  He was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow donor to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.  Jack was a long-time and active member of the Children’s Committee, which is focussed on providing support and assistance to children and youth with special needs.  Jack was always one of those Rotarians the Club could count on to participate in club-wide fundraising efforts, such as rotary4kids, Rose Day and Rotary Foundation dinners.  Jack truly embodied Rotary’s “Four-Way Test” of the things we think, say or do and always put ‘Service above self’ (Rotary’s motto).

The induction ceremony is tentatively set for September 27th and will be followed by a dinner at the Clarion Resort Pinewood Park, with tickets at $75.  Further details will be posted.
