President Natalie, welcomed everyone to the first formal meeting of our new Rotary year "Rotary Serving Humanity".
I want to personally thank Jeff Rogerson and his staff for doing a wonderful job of hosting the president’s installation barbecue on July 4, 2016! We had a great crowd out and it was a lot of fun! For those who weren’t there, we welcomed Lillian Danielson into the family of Rotary on that day!
I also want to thank Rotarians Brett Tucker, Bob Cunningham, Steve Wright, Rick Miller, Jeff Celentano and Dorine Stevens, who supported the Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament on July 7th where proceeds were going to the North Bay and Area Community Foundation. Huge Kudos to Jeff and his staff again for hosting that event – the golf course is in fabulous shape, thanks to Jeff’s hard work!
The board will be meeting at the YMCA boardroom on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 5:12 p.m. to finalize this year’s budget. Those committee chairs who haven’t submitted their budgets yet should do so soon!
On July 22, 2016 Rotaract will be hosting it’s annual “Up the creek without a PADDLE” – I will be on the boat soliciting pledges and would greatly appreciate your support, by making a donation and/or by coming to the beach at noon on July 22nd to support our friends at Rotaract and at PADDLE.
Riley Beam provided an excellent presentation about this year's event and her personal experiences. She learned many new things about Canada and about herself and will have so many memories that she will keep with her for the rest of her life. Riley thanked the club for sponsoring her and giving her the opportunity to participate in the program. She expressed her hope that the club will continue to support this fabulous program so that other students in North Bay can benefit from the learning experience as she did.
This annual event provides a unique opportunity for a selected group of young Canadians to come together to gain a better understanding of our country. Through meetings with political leaders, senior officials and others, they learn a great deal about the workings of our democratic institutions. Through meeting one another and having discussions among themselves, they learn to appreciate the diversity of Canada and the privileges and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship. This year brought 120 students together in Ottawa - all hosted by the Rotary Club of Ottawa
