Club President, Bill Hagborg, was on hand at the award ceremony for the 51st North Bay Regional Science Fair to present the Club’s awards on behalf of his fellow Rotarians.  The Fair took place on April 3rd at Nipissing University. 

 

Fred McNutt, Environment Committee Chair, also participated as a judge for the day.

For an exceptional project to a student(s) who will be part of Team North Bay at the Canada-Wide Science Fair:

Rotary Award of Excellence

Awarded to Aidan Kehoe, Widdifield Secondary School, for his project “Antimicrobial Properties of Copper in a Health Care Setting”.  School plaque and $500 travel expenses.

For the best projects related to the environment:

Junior Division (Grades 7-8)

Awarded to Joshua Cox, William Beatty Public School (Parry Sound), for his project “Cleaner Than Water”.  Certificate and $50.

Intermediate Division (Grades 9-10)

Awarded to Ethan Galema, Widdifield Secondary School, for his project “The Effects of Various Conditions on Germination of Brine Shrimp Cysts”.  Certificate and $100.

Senior Division (Grades 11-12)

Awarded to Lucas Oyeniran and Joshua MacDonald, Widdifield Secondary School, for their project “Triple E: The Cattail Way!”.  Certificate and $150.

 

Lucas and Josh are also heading to the Canada-Wide Science Fair 2013, being held in Lethbridge, Alberta, May 11-18, with Aidan, as well as Aysha Draves (Widdifield) and Madeleine Yeomans (Chippewa).

 

The rotary club congratulates their award recipients and all the other winners at this year's fair.
